“He’s probably just gonna sleep through the night,” Shaun said to him as the rest of them were getting ready to leave. “I think it’s safe to go home.”
“No. Not leaving,” Dexter answered, still holding onto Colin’s clammy hand like he has been the whole time. “I can’t.”
“Okay, well.” Shaun placed a comforting hand on Dexter’s shoulder. “Let us know if anything changes.”
Dexter nodded. He got a few texts after they were gone assuring him that if he needed a break that any one of them would switch places with him. But Dexter wasn’t going anywhere. He wasn’t there when Colin needed him the last time. He wasthere when he passed out. And he’d be here when he woke up.
