If he crossed into the high-rise and announced himself to the doorman, would he be throwing away everything he had with Sean? Would he be tossing aside love? And for what? Money? Fame? Security? A chance to do something with his life that for once might not end in disappointment but in triumph?
But what did all of that mean without someone he loved beside him to share in it?
He took a step away from the building, turning to look at the cars speeding north and south on Lake Shore Drive and beyond them, the hurling gray waters of Lake Michigan. He felt like the waters mirrored the conflict in his heart and soul. And the cars were filled with people who—unlike him—had places to go and important things to do.
