“What’s wrong?” Johnny asked. “Did we forget something?”
“No, it’s just…this looked like it was easier for you today than the cocktail party was last night.”
“Because it was. I got a good group. That Pam was really nice.” He decided to test the water. “Do you know her?”
Ryan didn’t hesitate to nod. “We’re friends online. She isnice. Drama-free.” They resumed walking. “I can’t say that about a lot of fans.”
It was good to know his bullshit-ometer still worked for people outside the industry. That meant he could trust his gut with Ryan, too, even without Pam’s endorsement. They wound around a corner in silence before he thought to ask, “Were you worried about me or something?”
A single broad shoulder lifted in a nonchalant shrug. “You were pretty down after the party last night. I’d hope this weekend would be fun for you, too, at least.”
He double-timed to get back to Ryan’s side so he could nudge his arm. “Do I need to remind you how much not torture this morning was?”
