He’d find a way to make it up to her tomorrow.

Right now, all he cared about was finding Ryan and making sure he was all right.

The door creaked open. “All clear,” Rachel said. “But we have to take the stairs up to your floor. There’s a group of sheep hanging out in front of the elevators.”

By sheep, she meant fans, but he lacked the energy to argue with her lack of respect. Silently, he slipped past her and darted straight into the stairwell. The buzz from the lights prickled across his skin. When one flickered as he set his foot on the first riser, Johnny froze.

“They’re gone.” Rachel’s voice was surprisingly gentle behind him. “That’s just cheap fluorescents.”
