Chapter 7

“Look, Chip, I get it. It’s awkward that we’re going to be family now. But it is what it is, right?”

I gave him a rushed nod and masked a frown. This wasn’t fair at all. And why had he kissed me anyway? All it had done was make me want more. I couldn’t stop wanting him if I tried, and this foreign desire I hadn’t always felt grew to a level that was impossible to ignore.

“Find a new job yet?”

I sighed and didn’t want to think too much about it. The fact that I wanted to have a stress-free summer only got in the way of things because I had to eventually find something by this fall to avoid being unemployed for much longer. “Nope. I’ve been looking, though. I’ll find something soon enough.”

“Still into art?”

“Yep. Graphic design, mostly covers for books and whatnot. Logos, too. How about you? What have you been doing lately?”
