Chapter 17

“What do you want us to do?” Kenneth finally asked. “Stay in here and let you watch?”

“Why not?” Leon jerked his chin toward Amy. “It’s not like she hasn’t been watching us.”

Her eyes went wide, and the fire in her cheeks spread. Suddenly, she knew Leon wasn’t referring to their first night there. She had spent the past two nights listening for a repeat performance, and Kenneth hadn’t let her down. As soon as she heard the whispering start, she crept to the curtain and peeped out. She didn’t see much more than she did the first time, but her imagination filled in the details, scraps of information she gleaned from kissing Kenneth in the barn.

But she’d never guessed that Leon knew she was standing there. He’d never even hinted at it.

Kenneth’s pale skin almost looked purple when he focused his attention on her. “You’ve been…you know we….you were watching us?”

“I’m sorry,” she blurted. “I didn’t mean to—”
