Chapter 13

“Um, I think it’s been about five years since I left. I wasn’t at the big one in the Chancellor’s Estate, but one of the smaller ones.”

They finished clearing the coffee beans off the floor. “I can pay for those,” Nick said.

“Oh, that thing sticks all the time, someone dumps a bunch at least once a trip.”

“If you’re sure.”

Savannah smiled. “I’m sure. But from now on, get the coffee from me.”

Nick took his bag of beans and promised, “I will.”

He headed back to their room. As he reached the deck and their suite, Todd was just unlocking their door.

“Hey,” Nick said. Todd stood with the door open, waiting for him. “I got some of that coffee to take home with us.”

“What’s wrong with you?” Todd stepped aside to let Nick ahead of him.

“I met coffee trolley girl, Savannah.”

“She grab your ass?”

Nick snorted, and Todd smiled. “No, she did not. She did, however, tell me that a lot of the slaves on the boat are—well, used to be—orphans.”
