Chapter 33

Without missing a beat, Nick dropped one of the sticks, swung around, and smashed his fist into Leo’s face. Leo staggered backward a few steps before landing on his ass.

Todd sprinted across the room as the rest of Benning’s men flooded into the corridor behind Nick. Leo was climbing off the floor when Todd slid between him and Nick. “Hey, hey—what the hell is going on here? And whatare you doing?” Todd shouted at Nick and grabbed the sticks Nick had dropped. “You don’t hit people. What the hell is wrongwith you?”

While he shouted at Nick, Todd moved so he herded Nick away, separating him from the rest. If they had to run, Nick would have a clear path.

“No, sir. I’m sorry, sir.” Nick hunched his shoulders forward, dropped his chin so his bangs flopped forward, and his gaze went to the floor.

Todd spread his arms wide and turned to face Snow. “What’s the deal?”

“Your slave cheated at billiards,” Snow said in a low, dangerous voice and stalked around behind Nick.
