“So, let me see if I’ve got this straight,” Jeff said, staring at the busy bartender’s back as if trying to bore holes into it with his eyes. “This guy is making enough noise for three daycare centers, but you’re not doing anything about it because he’s…” Jeff paused as the bartender turned, caught Jeff’s eye, and nodded at the empty bottle that Jeff held up. Drink secured, Jeff returned his one-eyebrow-lifted, obviously scoffing gaze back to Leo. “Because he’s cute?”

Leo rolled his eyes. “No. Not once did I say that, and I know that you knowI didn’t say that. I’m giving him a break because it sounds like he’s having a hard time and sometimes people need that, Jeff. You ever heard of a little thing called karma?”

Jeff exchanged his twenty for a bottle of beer and gave the bartender a nod and a smile. “You sound like your dad.”
