Chapter 12

“Belinda!” Gordy beg-scolded. “Leo, I…” He shoved his left palm into his forehead, squeezing his eyes shut and screwing the rest of his face into a grimace. “I just—”

“This is not a guest, Gordy. This is a disaster.”

Leo knew he wasn’t being helpful, but he was too surprised to make an attempt to rein in his temper yet. Of all the things that could have possibly been going on up here, a goat wouldn’t have made it on a list of maybes. How could someone be so foolish as to bring something like this into the city? In such a small apartment? It wasn’t just irresponsible, it was cruel.

Gordy walked to his loveseat and dropped onto the hard, cushion-less platform. His arms hung between his legs, and his shoulders stooped so low, they were rounded. He looked too heartbroken for Leo to remain angry.
