This time Leo checked the laugh that tried to get out, and even managed to kill a smile as well. “They’re not, but they’re rubber.” He walked to the back of the truck, sliding his palms against each other in what he hoped was a suitable gesture for friction. “They stick, right? I mean, their job is to stay in place. So, dragging them, especially when they’re stacked up with each other is going to make them all but immobile.”

“Then how do we…” Gordy tilted his head, as if trying to figure out the mathematics of it all. At that moment, he looked more like Belinda than Leo would ever dare to say.

Leo lowered the tailgate and hopped in the back of his truck. He reached for both sides of the top mat and rolled them into each other. Then he scooped up the rolled mat effortlessly. “Like this.” He handed it to Gordy. “Just like a carpet. I should have taped them, but I don’t think they’ll give us too much trouble. You can just—”
