That was the goodstream of thought even with the unwanted side effects. The other one wasn’t such a great one. On that path, the only thing he did was act as referee to the two sides of his head arguing over Gordy’s intentions.

As good as the fantasies were, the whole relationship was proving to be exhausting. More exhausting than working a hundred weekends in a row or replacing a dozen spent starters in the same damn truck using the same abused credit card. It was that realisation that was bothering Leo the most. That’s not how things were supposed to be. Companionship was about lightening the load. Relationships were supposed to be positive ventures. Love wasn’t supposed to be arduous. Occasionally hard? Yes. With a bump in the road or two? Of course. Leo was either missing something that he should have been seeing, or Jeff was right, and this wasn’t actually working into a relationship at all.
