“We’ll be there in just a few hours,” Ford said from behind her.
“I know. Will it be safe? I mean, will Reid…”
“He was in it for the money. I doubt it was anything personal.”
“But what if he feels threatened or something? What if he wants to make some sort of pre-emptive strike?” Eliza asked, unable to lose the image of a babbling Elsie pointing a gun at her face. “They’re crazy. Maybe it’s something in the water.”
“They are crazy,” Ford agreed. “But I don’t think they’ll try to shoot us, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
Eliza shook her head. “I just have a bad feeling. Somebody is waiting for us, Ford, I just…I just know. I can’t explain it.”
“That’s your instincts. Nothing wrong with listening to them.”
“Then let’s listen. What should we do?”
