After Kaden talked to the manager about David’s car, they walked to David’s house with neither of them saying a word until they left the business district and encountered the residential side of the neighborhood. “Are you glad to be back home?”
“I am. I didn’t think I would ever come back. So many—”
“Bad memories?” Kaden asked. No one said anything for a good minute. But the silence was knifing Kaden in the heart. “Was I one of them?”
David continued walking slowly and didn’t say anything.
“I’m sorry, David.”
“For what?”
