Chapter 19

Smoke got to watch local International Falls programming for two hours while Gin did whatever he was going to do. He’d have called some of the people from his team, but he didn’t have any of their numbers memorized. Instead, he cooled his heels and tried to cool his brain.

Gin thought he had a way out of this. It was a nice idea, and Gin was the kind of guy who planned and made things happen. If his boss’ boss’ boss—how many bosses was that?—had gotten involved, it was probably well beyond his reach to fix. Smoke had faith, but he needed to be realistic. He cared for Gin—he might even love him, although love was a funny word for such a short time period. He had faith in Gin. He had to be realistic about their chances here.
