Zeke doesn’t know how to react. A vicious part of him is glad, glad that Tom is gone from the world. Even though all these years have passed, he still hates Tom, the school bully. But at the same time, Zeke was raised to never wish death on anybody, no matter their crime, and he’s sure Jerry didn’t give Tom the kind of humane death a prisoner would receive.
“Thank you for doing that,” Zeke says. Even though he’s not sure he’s glad about Tom being killed, he doesn’t want to make Jerry mad, and he can tell Jerry expects praise.
“He begged for his life. He said you begged him to stop. Did you?” Jerry asks, a cruel glint in his eyes.
“Fucking asshole,” Brenton spits out behind Zeke.
“Now, now, we’ve had enough from you. Just be quiet while Zeke and I talk, or I’ll cut out your tongue,” Jerry threatens.
