“Thanks, that’s a good idea.” Zeke can afford a better place than he has, but he never wanted to be asked questions.
“I think I’m going to have to move, as well. He was in my bedroom while I was sleeping. It’s too creepy being there.” Brenton shudders. Zeke can imagine Brenton must be feeling shaken up. He was abducted from his parents’ home and held hostage, threatened over and over again.
“We can help you find a place,” Jamie offers.
“And you can stay with us till you find it,” Jed says, looking at Donnie, who nods his agreement.
“Seeing as my family reacted so badly, it’s not like I can stay with them. So yes, that’d be great, thank you.” Brenton tries to sound like he doesn’t care, but Zeke can tell he does.
“It was bad?” Drew asks.
“The split lip wasn’t from being kidnapped,” Brenton says sourly.
“Someone hit you?” Jed asks.
“My uncle.” Brenton sighs.
“What an asshole,” Donnie says.
“I have a feeling you won’t want to, but we can press charges,” Jamie says.
