Chapter 23

In great strides, I crossed the terminal, lost in my thoughts, mentally preparing myself for the long flight ahead. For the week’s events. Then I looked up and spotted Myles. He was holding his coat, standing a few feet away. His hair was wild, shining like polished bronze in the light, and I realized I’d never seen him looking so natural. No hair gel, his clothes a little ruffled.

“Hi, there.” I tipped my head. “You didn’t have to stay away.”

“I—I just wanted to give you two your space.” He ran his fingers through his hair and my gaze followed his hand. “I’m on my way to Derek right now.”

“Well, thank you. And, uh, I’ll see you soon.” Not knowing how to part, I picked up my carry-on handle and started to leave. “Bye, Myles.”

“Wait, Nick.”

“Yeah?”

“Come back safe,” he said not meeting my eyes. “He needs you.”

I tried to understand the look on his lovely face. “I will. I promise.” I waited a few seconds. “Take care of Derek. He needs you, too.”
