“Nothing. I was telling Nico about the racist crap at school.”

She rubbed Boone’s wide shoulder. “If you like, I can take Vivian out this weekend and have a little talk with her.”

“Yeah? That could help.”

We stood in silence for a few seconds. Our bond had been tested many times, but never broken. No matter what we were going through, we could count on each other.

“Gotta get the kids home. School tomorrow.” Boone grabbed my face hard and kissed my forehead. “Thank you.”

“Ouch.” I chuckled. “You need a shave.”

After Boone had walked away, Lene watched him for a moment and then looked back at me. “I was pretty impressed that you stayed in Oslo and trusted us to take care of Derek.”

“Well, Myles helped with that.”

“Has he left?”

“I don’t know. Ask Derek. All I know is, he saw Ethan this afternoon and then texted Der that he was going home to water his plants.”

“But he hasn’t come back here?”

“No.”
