“That’s right,” she whispered, checking the staircase at her left. “There’s so many people around you, so many distractions and demands, that your own son feels like he should make an appointment in order to have some of your time.” She walked up to me. “And now, you’ve brought in a stray and Spencer has gone down another notch.”
A stray? I hated her perspective. But she had a point.
“I swear, Nicola, you might think I’m a bitch, but you forget how open minded I’ve been in the last few years. A lot of mothers would have given you a harder time. But this is going too far. If I hear that Myles is more than a temporary roommate to you and Derek, I’ll have to keep Spencer away.”
She was only being a protective mom.
“Myles has got his own room,” I said, pretty lamely and scratched my head.
“Oh, his own room. And I suppose you lock him at night?” She shook her head at me. “Tell me the truth.”
