They found the place guarded by several Crockettsville policemen, while yellow crime scene tape encircled the now trampled and ravaged yard. They didn’t stop. Instinct told them it would be wisest to appear to be idle passersby with only curiosity to motivate them. Although there was no way to be sure yet, it looked like Ivan’s jolly scheme had crashed in a bad way.

Jerry glanced at Riki. “Holy shit. You weren’t here late last night, were you? And it was quiet when you left, wasn’t it?”

Riki shook his head. “Nope and yep. Soon after Diamond left, I booked, too. Just wasn’t up to any more dates after that. I must’ve left by about ten and hauled ass home so I could tell you.”

“Whatever happened must’ve been real late or maybe early this morning. Wonder where the other guys are?”
