Chapter 9

“Yeah. Got a better place for me to stay?”

“Mhm, a whole empty house.”

“It’s really okay for me to come over?”

“Why not?”

Luke didn’t answer that question. He got in the car after River did.

“Didn’t know they had a station like this around here, nice.” Luke commented on the pop rock that flowed from the car speakers. River only smiled and took them home.

“You’ve got a good eye for decorating,” Luke complimented as he looked around the spacious house and its touches of masculinity after they arrived. River finished turning on lights and entered the kitchen. Luke followed him in and reached over to give the cat a stroke like he already knew her when she came close for a peek at him.

“Most of this wasn’t me.” River filled Jupiter’s water bowl on the island then got cold water bottles from the fridge for them.

“Well, thank God. These are actually kind of depressing colors. And the signs are kind of try-hard.”
