He was on his third row when he realized Dominique had gone silent. Noting where he was, he sidled down the narrow passage to the end of the stack and peered around the corner. Dominique was curled up on the floor with a huge picture book in her lap, her jaw literally dropped as she slowly thumbed through its pages.
Jesse felt himself wincing before he even voiced his question. “What are you looking at?”
To her credit, she didn’t even flinch. “People so freaky, they make that shit you pulled at the vamp club in London look like going to the circus.”
Jesse wedged himself between her and the nearby shelf. “You mean the relatively normal circus with clowns and elephants, or the sort with the bearded lady and the lobster boy?”
She looked up at him through her lashes. “You are the poster child for High School Musicalcompared to these guys.”
“I don’t know what that is, but I’m going to take your word for it.” He held his hand out. “Pass it over before it scars you permanently.”
