He pulled Arlo’s towel from him, dropped it on the floor, and led him out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. He lifted the cover and climbed in, wrapping himself around Arlo.

“Dawn will be here soon.”

“Sleep, honey. You can sing to the sun tomorrow.”

He sensed Arlo’s smile. “I’ll wake up when the sun rises, I always have, always will.”

“Rest until it does.” He kissed Arlo’s neck, content to hold him close. Nash drifted, sleep pulling him into oblivion.

“I love you too.” Arlo squeezed his hand and began singing, low and soft, a greeting to the day ahead of them.Epilogue

Arlo’s heart was beating fast, and he squeezed Nash’s hand hard enough to hurt, not that Nash showed any signs of discomfort.

Through the storefront window, he saw a short, slender woman with streaks of gray in her once almost-black hair. Arlo’s eyes burned. She looked older, older than he’d imagined, but she was healthy.
