“Are we there yet?” I asked.

He glanced at me and sighed.

“What, Ledbetter?” I asked quietly, sensing his mood.

“Do you have to tell people everything?” he whispered.

“I’m one of those go tell it on the mountain kind of guys. You know that. Shout it from the rooftops. Who the hell cares?”

“I just don’t like you sharing our business with anyone and everyone.”

“I will try to be more secretive, if that helps. Or we could go back in the closet.”

“Don’t you have any filter at all?”

“Like an air filter?”

“You know what I mean, Cantrell.”

“Lord, do I ever. I’m just not sure why you care so much what people think.”

“I don’t like people laughing at me.”

“Do you see anybody laughing at you?”

“You just have this habit of attracting everyone’s attention. I don’t know what it is with you, but every time I turn around, there you are, running your mouth. I hope you’re not planning on doing that in Boston.”

“So I should be more snobby. Like your parents, in other words?”
