“I was sorry to hear about your mother passing on,” Mama added.

Amelia frowned at the mention of her mother.

“She would be very proud of you, I’m sure, to see how well you’re doing. And there’s so many people who want to meet you!”

“Really?” Amelia said.

“Oh, of course, dear. There’s your uncle Billy and your aunt Shelly. That’s your father’s brother and his wife. And their kids, of course—Mary and Eli and Josh. Mary’s in Nashville, but she’ll be at the Fourth of July party and you can meet her. Eli and Josh are in college now. My, how they’ve grown. They’re your cousins, you know. And then I was telling some of the ladies at St. Francis about you. They all know Wiley, of course. I’m sure they’d be very pleased to make your acquaintance.”

“I want her to meet Tonya and Keke,” I said.

“Who are they?” Amelia asked.
