Chapter 24

“All I want to know is how much the asking price is.”

“You’ll love it,” Emma answered instead, twisting around to smile at him from the front of Jesse’s Jeep. “Trust us. This is going to be perfect.”

“That means expensive.”

“Well, Gideon, most decent places are,” Jesse said. “How long has it been since you bought a place to live? Bought. Not acquired, one way or the other.”

“That doesn’t mean I don’t know what the current real estate market is like.”

He watched through the window as Jesse turned the corner, away from the residential area they had just been cruising through. This was an old part of Chicago, narrower streets, older buildings. He liked that about it. He couldn’t imagine living in the middle of a bunch of families, or what it would be like conducting business with a tricycle in the yard next door, though.

“How long has it been on the market?” he tried asking.

“Six years.”
