“Now how am I supposed to say no to this face?” he said softly, pushing the hair off her cheek.

“You can’t,” Jesse said. “I’ve tried. It never works. That’s why she was Plan A. But that’s not quite a yes, yet.”

He looked over her head, first at the house, then to Jess. “How about a qualified yes until I get to see Plan B?”

“Fair enough. Clearly I’m not the only one with sex on the brain.” Jesse pointed toward a small copse of trees standing near what looked to be some sort of guesthouse. “I wonder if that’s the chapel Samantha mentioned?”

Gideon didn’t have to wonder. He saw the small stained glass window set in the side of the building. He’d rather hoped Jesse wouldn’t notice.

“We don’t have to go look at it if you don’t want to.” Emma gazed up at him with understanding. He wasn’t as careful these days in guarding his emotions around her, and with the physical contact, she’d picked up on his mild anxiety. “It’s late anyway.”
