“Anything. What can I get you?”
“An egg. I’d like for you to father an egg with me.”
Alec spluttered in surprise.
“My mate is a woman, and your mate is a man. I would like to share an egg between us, so you and Tuxtax can fill your nest with children. Would you be interested in becoming a parent?”
“Er, I never thought I would have the opportunity,” he replied with a blush.
“You have an opportunity with me. And I would like an opportunity with you.”
“I am afraid I’ll fail you,” Alec confessed.
“How so?”
“I am human born. My parents did not have the energy to transform me completely, so they fused my soul with my coeval tree. I may look like a winged elf, but I’m an abomination—human soul trapped in a hamadryad’s fate. I’m not even sure if I can—if I’m not sterile. And to mate with a vanth…What if I fail you, and your egg is not viable? And you risked your chance for children on me, and lost it?”
