“I’m not accusing you of working your way into here. That was mostly Phil’s idea, and it sounded reasonable. When I realised you were interested, I didn’t exactly struggle to keep you out of my bed. But…” Rob looked at the hurt, hopeful expression on the young man’s face, trying his best to ignore the pang in his heart. “Lee, it’s one thing to have sex because of a mutual attraction. It’s another when that attraction arises out of gratitude.”
Lee swallowed yet again. Rob couldn’t be certain, but possibly Lee’s lips trembled.
“I knew you’d think so.” He might have thought Lee was accusing if he hadn’t sounded equally upset. “I knew you’d think I was grateful. I knew you wouldn’t believe…”
“Believe what?” Rob asked when Lee’s words trailed off for so long he needed prompting.
“It’s okay. I’ll go.” Lee moved to rise from the bed. “I’ll find a hotel tonight, and then…”
