“You’re strong,” Rob said, his voice tight. “When the chance came, you didn’t hesitate. You took it. I may have indirectly and unknowingly given you a helping hand, but you would have found a way without me. You would have struck out. You were of the age to realise you had only one chance and that was to get away.”
Lee shook his head in protest. Rob gave a little thrust of his hips, silencing him. “Yes. You would have saved yourself without me. You need to realise that. See it in yourself. I’m glad I could help.” Rob balanced on one arm, brushing his other hand over Lee’s shoulders and neck, sliding his fingers up into Lee’s hair, sending shivers down Lee’s spine. “I’m glad, but you’re the one who saved yourself, not me. I admire you for that, for being brave enough. If you can decide that at seventeen, then I must trust any decisions you make now—including to stay.”
Stay? Lee tried to choke down the rising hope. “Are you asking me to stay…permanently?”
