The mage withdrew, and the healing warmth did also, but the pain was gone. Velanis was very good.
“What happened? Belak found you here and came to get me. Didn’t you leave with Kelwyn?”
“Kelwyn! Gods. That crazy vampire turned up again. I guess he survived after all. Next time I’ll burn him to ash,” snarled Harun, sitting up as he spoke.
Her Majesty only gave a short nod. “Given what you have reported of him, I assume he carried Kelwyn off again?”
“Yes. How long since we left?”
“About twenty minutes.”
Harun tried not to curse. That was far more of a lead than he wanted Lucretious to have. He picked himself up off the street, glanced around, then gave a mental shrug and started to strip. Now was not the time to worry about modesty. Neither of his companions looked surprised, they both had seen him change often enough. Indeed Velanis gathered up his clothes and tucked them into a pocket, where they vanished as if they weren’t there. One of his little magical tricks, no doubt.
