“So it seems.” Harun shook his head. “I am quite astonished.”
“So do I get off further lessons?”
“Be wary of over-confidence,” broke in Alberich. “Let us see if you are truly ready to face any opponent.” He vaulted over the railing, practice sword in hand, and squared off opposite the somewhat startled avian.
Alberich’s padded practice blade was a short sword, like the one Kelwyn held. He held it confidently in a guard position. “So. Show me that you can best me, and I will agree you need no training.”
Kelwyn felt suddenly nervous. Alberich had just seen how fast he was, and he looked awfully confident. Still, the worst thing that could happen was bruising, to his body or to his ego, so he launched himself in the fastest attack he could.
