They had a long way to go to get to the badlands yet. This was their second day of travel, and it would take almost a week. They had passed through the fields and farmland around the Tower yesterday, and the forest that lay south of that. Now they were winding their way amid a region of rocky hills that would eventually let out into more farmland, in a warmer, drier valley to the south, which grew a large portion of the kingdom’s crops. Beyond that the land dried out further, turning to a barren desert of rock and scrub, which stretched for hundreds and hundreds of miles, with the vast, fertile river valleys of Brisal on the other side.
