Kelwyn mentally replaced the baby in his happy picture of a future evening as a family by the fire with a large kitten with flame-tipped tail, and wanted to laugh. Maybe that would be the case. It could be no stranger than the rest of his current situation.
All that was for the future, though. While he’d been musing they’d reached the Dancing Dragon and it was time to share the happy—if more than a little peculiar—news of their impending fatherhood with their friends.
It was received with a cheer, though Kelwyn and Harun ended up explaining things half a dozen times to the curious and puzzled. They settled themselves at a table, Harun with a small beer and Kelwyn with a cider, and neither minded the questions. Eventually everyone who wanted to know more than the news itself seemed satisfied, and the two were left to themselves.
