Chapter 22

“Do you want me to shred some cheese for your eggs also?” Howard asked.

“That’d be great,” Jason said in a voice that said it would be anything but.

Jason walked over to the coffee pot and opened the cabinet above it.

“Do you mind if I make some coffee, or are you worried that my hands have been on too many coffee pots over the years?”

“I didn’t say anything about too many or too few. I just imagine that you’ve operated several people’s coffee pots since we split up,” Howard said. “I wasn’t judging.”

“Really?” Jason asked, trying to keep his voice calm. “Because from what you said, it sounds like these coffee cups have gotten their fair share of use.”

“Maybe I’ve had the breakfast table full of strangers every morning,” Howard said. “Either way, it’s none of your business.”

“Oh, it’s not, huh? So, I’m just one more coffee cup you’ve filled up, huh?” Jason asked.

Howard turned to him. “Look, you’re the one who started sniffing other people’s coffee.”
