Chapter 22

All the outsiders were gone. Even Stephanie’s new pack had left. The fire was dying, and Josh wasn’t sure how long he had stood there watching it. He had paid his respects to Silverbane. He had even come to some kind of acceptance that he had little power over how his pack had treated him and his mother during her life, and even less now. For the first time in his life, Josh was truly on his own. That realization had frozen him where he stood.

“Do you know the story of Lane Tremont?” Regina asked in a way that Josh suspected was more to satisfy her curiosity than his own, although he wasn’t sure just what she expected to learn from him.
