She smirked. “Did Silverbane strike you?”
“What?”
“Did he draw your blood?”
Josh felt the walls closing in on him.
“I didn’t think so.” Elaine smiled in triumph. “The family bond is forged in blood. Rogues must take of the alpha’s blood when they join a pack, and the only way out of that bond—short of death—is by shedding blood. If Silverbane did not draw your blood, then you are still bound to the family and our laws.”
“No!” Josh struggled to breathe against the growing tightness in his chest. “You can’t force me to stay. I’ll just run away again. You wouldn’t waste your time coming after me with the pack to keep under control.”
“I won’t have to.” Elaine’s smirk chilled Josh. “I will just tell Bryce that you carry Eric’s blood.”
The words stopped Josh before he could even reach the door. His body trembled as the full realization of the threat hit him.
“He’ll kill me.” He turned back to face Elaine, but her steely eyes offered no sympathy.
