“I will never allow you to take control of this family.” She stood her ground even though she felt a spike of fear course through her muscles.

“Will you kill me, Mother?”

“If I have to.”

Bryce laughed. Faster than Elaine was prepared for, he reached out and locked his hand around her neck. He squeezed hard enough to cut off the flow of air, but she was not going to give him the satisfaction of seeing her struggle.

“Go ahead, mother,” Bryce taunted. “Try to stop me.

Give me a reason to rip your throat.”

“You aren’t my son.” She forced out the words.

“Not anymore,” Bryce said. “I am so much more, thanks to grandfather. His Shade will not rest until the Silverbane pack is restored to its rightful glory. No more sniveling to those pathetic Amazons. No more pretending we are human. The blood that flows through us is the blood of the wolf demon and we should be proud of that. I’ve tasted the flesh of man. It has given me the strength to lead this pack as it should be led.”
