Bile rose in Josh’s throat as he fought his way out of the room. Tears blinded his sight. He could only make his way down the hall by feel, bumping into tables and the mourners following Elaine’s body out of the room. All around him, the pack members choked the oxygen from the air. It wasn’t until he was outside that he could finally breathe enough to run.

As he entered Andrea’s apartment, Josh wondered how big of a fool he was to still be in town. It would be pointless to run now that he’d accepted his bloodline and challenged Bryce. The urge to run was so strong it made him queasy.
“What are you doing?” Andrea sat on the couch flipping through the channels. “Geeze, who died?”
Josh froze. He realized then that there were still tears streaming down his cheeks.
“Tell me you spoke to Regina.” He lingered near the door. The urge to run was only checked by the futility of the idea. The Amazons were his last chance to save the pack.
“Not exactly,” Andrea said.
