So, he managed to override his qualms and went through every incident that involved his using his influence. One thing they all seemed to have in common, they required muchmore mental energy, more effort, than any amount of opening to his sensitivity, allowing him to receive impressions from others.

That made sense, he supposed; one was active, the other passive.

And, it seemed that passion—in his case anger or desperation—helped to drive such influencing. He wondered if that would always be true, or whether he would be able to learn to simply act on deliberation. And then he was struck with the uncomfortable image that created, like he would be carrying around a potent and invisible weapon.

Most interesting was the experience of the previous night. His efforts had had different effects on different people. At the time it seemed that fatigue might have been part of that, but thinking over it now, he wasn’t so sure.
