It wasn’t necessarily pretty or agile, but I managed the aisle and the steps. Finn stayed behind me, his hand never leaving my body.
“Thank you,” I said.
“My pleasure.”
“Bye, Cheryl.” I turned and waved.
“Bye, Cheryl.” Finn mimicked me.
“Bye, boos. You two have a fabulous day.”

Finn put his actual number into my phone as we rode up in the elevator. Then, I put my number in his. Not surprisingly, we got off on the same floor and headed for the same office door.
“Dr. Hitch?” I asked.
“Dr. Hitch.”
Disappointment ran deep when we reached the off-white waiting room with a huge L-shaped light oak desk up front and matching round pillars every eight feet or so around us. Despite a bit of fog left behind on my glasses from the temperature difference outside and inside, I immediately noticed the only two empty chairs were spaced at least two dozen filled ones apart.
“You take the one closer to the desk,” Finn suggested. “I can walk better.”
