“I could have helped with that.” He took a few steps closer, all the way to the bed, in fact. “If…”

“Yeah.”

“Stay there until everything’s better, okay?” Finn said.

“Yeah. I hope we get better,” I told him. “You and me. Us. Our names both have us in them.”

“Yeah.” No smile came. “I’m gonna go, now. I’m gonna think.”

It hurt to watch him walk away. “Are you coming back?”

“I don’t know, Russel.” Finn picked up Dolly. “We’ll see.”

Once up, I paced. My pacing would have put Finn’s to shame. Back and forth, back and forth, living room to bedroom so many times, I swore I could already see a wear pattern in the rug.
