“I have egg salad and chicken soup,” Cecily said.

“Okay.” Mark sat down in the breakfast nook. “Isn’t anyone else eating?”

“We already had food, baby. Greg didn’t want us to wake you. How do you feel?”

“Better, but I’m still upset, it’s my—”

“Don’t even say it. It isn’t your fault and I don’t want to hear that from your mouth again.” Reggie gave him a scorching kiss. “That is what your mouth should be doing, not spouting nonsense.”

Mark sat down and quietly ate his sandwich and soup.

The phone rang and Keith answered, spoke for a few minutes then hung up.

“It’s Jack, Billy’s dead. Jack’s on his way to give us the details. He called from the car.”

“How?” Reggie asked.

“He was right where Mark said he would be. Cisco was right. He bled out from the gunshot wound. Your former landlady is going to have to replace the bed.”
