Chapter 17

“I haven’t spoken to Jack about it, but he might like to go to school part-time and only work on weekends.” Jack looked at him strangely. “I can pay the freight. I assure you I make enough money to pay the bills three times over. Remember, our firm was originally located in the city and we charge city rates.”

Mama was instantly won over to Jack’s cause, once she heard about his parents. “Your mama and papa should have been proud of you. The way you stood up to take care of Isabella says something about your character. At least they raised you right even though they were bigots.”

Jack smiled wanly. “There is that.”
