Chapter 67

“Both Dr. Mahoney and Jane said it should be okay as long as Genevieve goes inside immediately if she becomes fatigued.” Lacey poured Gray some coffee, and Enzo sliced him a piece of cake.

“I worry that it’s taking Mom so long to recover.” Gray stirred sugar in his coffee.

“I don’t know how you take that much sugar in your coffee. It must be like drinking syrup.” Enzo shook his head.

“Hey, you have no room to talk. You take ketchup on your hot dogs,” Gray teased.

“As far as Mom is concerned, remember she was sicker than most people who undergo stem cell transplants, and therefore her recovery has taken longer.” Enzo put his arm around Gray.

“Sometimes she looks worse than she did before the treatment.” Gray started to tear up. Since Genevieve came home, Gray saved his misgivings and tears for the bedroom in Enzo’s arms. It was unusual for him to tear up in front of company.
