The roof. A shiver went down his spine.

“What are you doing there? It must be freezing up there.” Harris pulled his suits off the rack, trying to stay collected and not fall apart on Jude. “Can you please, please, go home and get in bed and rest? Please, Jude? I will be there tomorrow.”

“What? But you’re in Paris and—”

“Whatever. I’m checking out of this place and getting on the next flight out.”

“Harris, no, you can’t leave if your meetings aren’t over. You can’t ruin your chances.”

“I’m not ruining anything. The agreement is signed. The deal is done. There’s nothing for me here.”

“Except Paris. Paris, Harris. Don’t you wanna enjoy it?”

“Don’t you understand?” Harris stopped moving and spoke the next words softly. “Anywhere you’re not is Hell to me.”

“l don’t know what to say,” Jude whispered.

“Say you’ll get off that roof, go home and wait for me, and that’ll be enough to keep me together until my plane lands tomorrow.”
