Chapter 42

“Are you going home, then?” Jim asked as he put on the kettle.

“No, the detective and Bull say I’m still in danger. This guy may have associates or Ahmed could make bail. Someone was manning the boat and they were grabbing homeless kids off the street, some of them three and four years underage. So, I have to stay with Bull until the danger has passed. Bull’s going to train me to be his sub for a while,” Jamie said sourly, as if he’d eaten a lemon.

Brian came up behind them. “I heard all of that. How can you be his sub? He’ll break your heart.” Brian put down his tray of muffins then took off his light jacket and hung it up on the coat rack.

“I guess better my heart than my head.” Jamie put two sugar cubes in his cup waiting for Jim to pour.

“You poor thing, here have a muffin, I made them this morning,” Brian said.

Jim laughed.

“What?” Brian asked, indignant.
