Chapter 36

Sam said, “The PR person, one Matthew Kendricks, said that times were changing even in the sports world. He noted that your orientation never affected your ability to throw a ball or use a bat, so the Yankees were okay with it. They’ll probably issue a press release wishing you well. Now I’ve got to go if you want tomorrow to run smoothly.”

Gary hung up as the screen door shut. “Is that you, baby?”

“Yes, Sir. Widget did his business. He’s been cooped up at the shelter and in the car. We should probably let him run in the yard or play with him.” Danny picked up the Frisbee.

“Put Widget in his kennel. Sam Stein called. There has been a change of plans. We go on TV tomorrow instead of on Monday. They are going to broadcast it with an anchor rather than a sports reporter. I gave Sam some ground rules, he’s going to get back to us in a little while. We’ll play with Widget when this business is finished.”
