Bear saw Jake Cohen with Caden and Tom. He addressed Gary, “Since you had a room reserved tonight, let the rest of the table talk about the security issue and see what we come up with together. You go take care of Danny. He’s so wired, he looks like he’s stuck in a hole with a thousand fire ants.”


“Thanks, I owe you.” Gary got up and shook Bear’s hand.


“We kinky bastards have to stick together.” Bear laughed. “Now go take your boy upstairs to play.”


Gary put his hand on Danny’s shoulder. Danny looked up and put two fingers on Gary’s arm.


“This entire ruckus is over me? I don’t want to cause anyone any trouble.”


“It’s not because of you, it’s me. I was the one who made the decision to leave Marty’s agency and have him investigated.” Gary’s hand got tighter on Danny’s arm. “Please get it into your head that you have friends and family. They do for you as you would do for them.”


“Gary’s right,” Brian said from Bear’s feet.
